Im having brain freeze. If I only need 4 nights in a cat 9 does it pay to to do the transfer so I get the united points as well or better off just transferring SPG points for the stay?
That'll cost you either 160k or 180k Marriott depending on availability. Assuming the best rate of 160, that's ~53k SPG, so you'd basically be giving up the ability to transfer 77k SPG into 152k UA which is an incredible transfer rate. If you're going to be using SPG for the stay anyways, I would definitely say to do the 7 night package.
If I understood correctly although I only need 4 nights (cat 9 and rate is 160K) I should transfer 77k SPG points "wasting" 24K SPG, so this way I will get besides the 4 nights (or 7) needed I will also get the 152K United???
No, your cheshbon is wrong. You should convert 130k SPG to 390k Marriott and then get a 7 night cert plus 152k UA through the hotel + airline package. Unless you are looking to hang on to as many SPG as possible and don't really need the UA, this way makes the most sense to do.
