Opened around a year ago, don't need it.
Have other ink cards, what's the best step to take? Downgrade? Retention? Close card?

Downgrade to a no AF card, or cancel and transfer credit if you want to keep the CL.

Closing a business card doesn't affect anything, is that correct?
Or will it trigger something being that i opened it a year ago?

What I should have done was open the no annual fee business ink card and get the bonus, and then with this ink preferred downgrade to another no annual fee card.

Technically I can still do that as have 30 days from when annually posts.
 What's your take?

No real hurt to closing it aside from loss of a credit line which can be transferred. Which Inks do you have? You can have 2 of the same if you feel a need/want.

So you can apply for a cash or unlimited, and downgrade this to the other, unless you plan on getting both. Remember, unlike Amex, you can hold the card and still get the bonus later when you close it.

meaning I don't have to wait 12/24 months from when I close it?

Not possible to have two unlimited or two cash? Why the need to downgrade to the other one from whichever one i open?

Correct, you aren't qualified just by holding the card, it's only by earning the bonus. You can have multiple of the same, but if you aren't opening both, having one of each give you more diversity.

Gotchya , think I'm ganna do that. Good choice!
So that would mean I shut the card and reopen it a day later and I would get the bonus? obviously to play it safe I would wait a week or two for it to show that it's closed in my account.

Now with this Chase account I have only my Sapphire reserve and this Chase ink business which I want to close.
For now I have my reserve but those free inks don't allow me to transfer points between one Chase account to another is that correct?
Assuming a husband and wife accounts all the same info, last name address..
  Thanks @as2  Good Shabbos!

Yes, closing the card would allow you to reopen it and get a bonus. As far as transferring, you can transfer UR between any card that earns them. If you are at the same address or husband/wife accounts, you will be fine. I transfer from a household members ink unlimited every month.

Has been a while since I transferred without an AF card in my account, hence my Q was based with transferring without an AF card in your account like a CF alone?  Don't remember if there's an option to transfer or was it only that u can't transfer to airlines and the like?

Airlines only. Points can be transfered from any UR earning card to another, but only AF cards allow transfers to airlines.

Gotchya. So one AF card in a household would suffice.
Now the only question is can you transfer from that one account to multiple United accounts, I assume not. Even though the accounts are all the same last name and addresses, if I remember correctly the entire name has to match to the account you're transferring to.
At that point I would just use their account to book the Travel I suppose.

That's where it starts to get a bit more specific. You could always just book out of your UA account, especially if they share a last name.

Thanks, I guess I'll call retention department and see what I can get, if not I'll downgrade to the card that earns 1.5 cents per point.
IIRC there were two different ones, I have to see what's the difference and take the one which sounds better.

There's the Ink Cash and Ink Unlimited. Unlimited gives you 1.5 points/$ with no bonus categories, while the Cash gives you 1 point/$ but has a few bonus categories of which 5 point/$ at office supply stores is often most popular.

If I get nowhere with retention, does it make sense to apply for the Unlimited With no AF with a mailer I received, and that way I can just close the card instead of the need to downgrade to this very card?
Hence I'm saving myself the hassle from closing the card and then reopening when I want to get the bonus offer?  What you say, better idea?

How many cards you had over the past 24 months? Under 5?

And no matter what message you get, you can call the retention dept. To hear what they have to say and push it all the way through until you get the answer you want!

Chase gave me an extra month to hit the 50k spend. I tried to get them to waived the 50k spend requirement.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half
