Are you a Secure Certificate customer? Did you recently purchase or try to set up a SSL certificate?
It was legit.

Not sure why they needed to reverify it.

So I'm trying to install a ssl certificate on my website. I'm using sslforfree.com I want to do the manual verification so it tells me to make a folder called .well-known and in that a folder called acme-challenge .

I did that through the file manager on my cpanel. I think I put them in the main directory. Then I uploaded the two verification files there.

Now when I click on the links to check if the file is uploaded I get a 404 page not found error.

I tried going to mysite.com/.well-known and it shows a directory of some sort. But if I go to mysite.com/.well-known/acme-challenge it gives me a 404

Anybody know what the problem could be?

Are you sure you have to use the "." Before the name? Have you tried without it?

What happens when you go to the folder on the browser? Are you able to see the files you uploaded?

You're referring to the .  of .well-known? I haven't tried that

When I go to my site.com/.well-known I don't see acme-challenge as a folder. I see a link to parent directory and another folder called pki-validation

And when you check what's inside the well-known folder in the cPanel you do see the files or you see the pki-validation folder?

I don't see pki validation. I see the folder acme challenge and in that I see the two verification files

Is it possible that you have 2 different ".well-known" folders? try changing the name for whatever and trying to access it again with the browser. If it works then there is a ".well-known" folder in another directory and that is the one you should edit.

If it fails, then it would be really strange that you don't see the same folders inside the browser and the cPanel.

It seems like you're right. I tried changing the folder name but I can still access mysite.com/.well-known and it shows the pki folder.

But I don't see any other .well-known folder in the file manager on cpanel?

Upload a file to the same directory you are uploading the ".well-known" folder and try to access it. You shouldn't be able.

You don't have any search function in you cPanel FTP? What is the full path to where you are uploading (you can change sensitive info, I just want to know what is before and after yoursite.com)

I'm assuming that it's better to set indexing to "no indexing" on cpanel. Is that true and are there any disadvantages for doing so?

Where is the best place to "park"  a domain? My intention would be that when someone goes to the domain, it'll display a message that I put up.

ETA: I don't know if "park" Is the right word. I just want a custom message/image to show up when people visit the site.

If you have your domain from name.com they have a 'prologue site' option $5/year

Why don't you sign up to a free hosting plan that has a drag and drop site builder and just put whatever you want on there
