Also, when whoever it was said they don't get paid, I think he meant they don't get a paycheck but they get tips. this is true for many camps' waiters, that their only pay is from tips.

Tips are really limited in Detroit, because visiting day is almost non-existent, and parents feel that the exorbitant tuition should already cover all bases.

Not getting paid to be a waiter is normal. But I never heard of paying to be one. I'm assuming Detroit is the only one that does this, probably because they can get away with it, but what is it that would draw kids to this camp where they have to pay to work as a waiter over other camps who don't charge?

havent been in camp for a few years but when I was a bochur every camp in the catskills charged to be a waiter
