UPS is leaving? I'm there all the time. There isn't a UPS Store anywhere nearby.

Yes - unfortunately. With all of the schools in the area they decided they are moving out. A huge loss to Lakewood.

Now the developer says he wont be able to build the 263 either because he was hoping to build both together as one huge development with 485 residences and 970 cars (assuming no basements).

Through the public speaking up, we have avoided this whole project!!
I call BS. The developer will be building the 263 units, unless you put up a fight with the DEP. The ONLY way I'd believe him if he actually withdraws his application.

Anyone know when they're leaving?
Will they be opening a new location nearby?

There is a UPS Store in Jackson. I don't know if it will do the trick, I'm just saying...

We are losing a UPS hub. When a package is dropped off in the brick UPS Store, it is probably then brought to the Lakewood Hub at the end of the day. When a package comes in from somewhere else to Brick, it passes through the Lakewood hub.

Now, the nearest hub will be a much further away and our packages will be routed through there

UPS stores are independently owned. They can, and often do, charge, just to drop off a package. They definitely can't take the volume that is dropped off at UPS now.

http://www.takebacklakewood.com/blogs/post/Why-parking-variances-are-bad

15 America Ave. 202 parking spaces needed - approved by Planning Board with just 149 spots. Result? Parking on grass and along narrow street

Email sent to planning board:
At this weeks planning board meeting, the board approved a shul on County Line with 7 (or 8?) parking spaces. Granted it was within the parking ordinance due to the size of the shul but the applicant had many variances and the board could have easily asked them to provide more parking.

The shul has a kollel (people who study there most of the day). The applicant testified that they won't use the simcha room and that most people will walk to shul and not drive. They 'proved' this since thousands of Orthodox Jews live within a 1/2 mile radius so why would anyone drive!? The fact is, that many people will and do drive to shuls even if they are nearby. This will greatly harm the neighbors who just lost all of the street parking in front of their house with your approval.

In regard to simcha halls: To the board's credit - The board has been good at requiring shuls with simcha halls to provide extra parking. Unfortunately, the latest way around that is - the applicant promises that they won't use the simcha hall (and it's even in the resolution). Unfortunately, the promise starts and ends in the resolution. No shul keeps to that promise and the neighbors although greatly harmed, don't want to report the shul to the inspection department. Therefore, the hall is used and all of the nearby streets are clogged with cars from people who came for the simcha.

What can we do to resolve this? Perhaps an ordinance that would somehow preclude this from happening? I'd suggest that if a shul has a room that has the physical ability to function as a simcha room - we do not allow them to simply 'claim' that it will sit unused.

See pics. What happens when parking variances are given.

Or require them to post a bond for 5 years that they won't use it as a simcha hall
