USAA Bank Master Thread
« on: October 30, 2016, 10:58:44 AM »
PSA: USAA's policy for their banking, used to be that as long as you have money in your account (even 1˘) they can't shut it down, even if there was no activity. I noticed in a recent statement that they have made some changes.
They now consider an account inactive if there is no activity for a year. Even if you have money in the account. So if anyone still wants to keep their accounts open, make sure to be active at least once a year.

Buy something at a store and do a split payment.

You'll probably getting a weird look from the cashier when you  ask to put a penny on a different card

I have a checking account linked to a savings account that gets interest ( on $20...).

I wonder if it applies to it?

I don't know about inactivity fees with USAA bank. I've found USAA bank to be one of the best kept secrets, no fees, no minimums, ATM fee rebate, useful as ACH hub (in and out of other accounts), excellent funds availability on remote deposit and ACH transfer ins initiated from USAA.

I think the only bank that beats them might be Schwab, which also refunds foreign ATM fees last time I checked and also has more of a local footprint, but is a bit of a PITA as you are opening a brokerage account along with it, even if you don't use the brokerage account.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

That's great but most people can't open one now.

It's probably easier that CPC to get in. I opened mine when they allowed non USAA members to open accounts. I can now open joint accounts with others, and then they can open their own, etc. etc.

The funny thing is that when I opened it they didn't allow non USAA members to do remote deposit, but at some point that changed and I'm able to deposit quite a high daily limit with immediate availability.

I can't make mobile deposits.

Deposit@Mobile is unavailable to you due to one or more of the following reasons:You do not have eligible Bank or IMCO accounts

I have both a checking and savings account...not sure why...

I have no clue. I only have checking accounts with them. Did they assign a USAA number to you?

Just tried and successfully opened a checking account,
I noticed the limit for transfers to external accounts is $5000 is that per transaction?  Per day?  Per month?
