I got a call from Chase to verify information on my husband's Amazon cc application. I told them I DID NOT apply, so she cancelled the app and said that the app was probably generated by someone pressing the pop up when they ordered on Amazon. I was skeptical and checked with my family members and noone rememebered accidentally applying.
A few days later I got 2 letters from Chase. One telling my husband that his app was cancelled. A 2nd letter to me that I was approved for an Amazon cc!! And they lowered my credit line on several of my other cards to approve me for a 15K credit line!
a) How did someone get both mine and my husband's ss#?!
{b) How did I get such easy approval despite my 5/24 problem, when I just had to beg for approval of my Sapphire Reserve?}
I spoke with Chase and they cancelled my card, changed from my 'mother's maiden name' to a password, restored the credit lines on my cards, and will send me an identity theft kit.
I asked her if the fraudster had needed to fill in our ss#'s on the app? She suggested that my ss# was in my Amazon account. IT IS!! Amazon payments!
So, I would ask from a fellow DDFer who still has an Amazon payments account active. Could you please start an application for an Amazon cc, and see if it loads the ss# for you, or you need to manually add it. I would feel much better knowing that the security breech is at the Amazon end.
Also: Everyone- get your SS# out of Amazon ASAP!
Edit: I just got off from Amazon. If they had been applied through my Amazon account, I would have gotten a $50 bonus to my Amazon GC balance. Since I didn't- it probably was not done through my Amazon account. OH, NO!!!
