What if you needed to make a last minute change? They don't have ANY after hours service available?

Time to find yourself a new agency..

You didn't get a travel agent. You called a big agency like you would call Priceline, Priceline is also a travel agency.

For the future get a good local travel agent not someone with a huge office, someone who you got good feedback, who you will have his cell number and be able to get through him whenever you need.

I know a lot of good travel agents where if you would be their client you would already be on your way with United with a connection to YYZ etc.
Honestly just assumed that since they were advertised on Dan's deals that they were good and reputable. Obviously should have done my own research...

I have no experience, but they could still be reputable. Just not the most dedicated travel agency...

I dont think dealing with clients cancelled flight is considered "above and beyond". Its accepted and thereby expected procedure.

Every travel agency offers weekend support?
Global seems to have access to cheaper fares than on OTAs. I'd assume people use them when they're cheaper, not for the support.

Either way, they've been advertising for a decade and I haven't heard of any major issues. But next time send me an email and I'd be happy to pass you through to someone.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Will Dan put his foot down, demanding better service, or banning advertiser?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Obviously I cant say every TA does. But the many I have dealt with, will gladly give you their cell number if theres a chance of flight cancellation.

But as you mentioned this specific TA is known for cheaper fares as opposed to service.

Did they promise weekend service somewhere?

Yup.
Looking through their site it doesn't mention office hours anywhere.

After hours (not just weekend) support is necessary IMHO if you're a travel agent.

I don't think that would have helped in this case

Most travel agents don't save you any more, so they sell based on service, Many will tell you to call anytime.
GT specializes in fares that are lower than what OTAs offer. If you ask about service hours they're not going to say to call anytime.

I'd always happy to pass along cases to advertisers. Email works best.

Even if pilots claim they aren't on strike lol. How do you claim?
Any recourse for someone's who's flight tonight was canceled? The last few posts seem to indicate that not due to it being a pilot strike?

ETA. Scratch that. Missed Yankel's post.
Did anyone end up getting compensation for the cancellations 2/4-2/7 ?

Well when you see advertisement on DD you can assume they are good and reputable meaning they are not fraud etc. Level of service is a whole different ball game.  They can argue that if you have an emergency you can call the airline, they don't have to be available 24/7. So you can't demand anything from Dan etc. HOWEVER, it is your choice to find a travel agent who will personally take care of you.

You can say what you think when you think what you say.

And to clarify GT doesn't have anything major which you can't find online. Net fares you can get from your local travel agent. Where they specialize is group space on peak dates which of course may be a good deal.

To which you will need 24/7 support in a case such as this one.
