Atlanta Trip Report
« on: November 14, 2016, 12:11:58 AM »
I didn’t see any TR on Atlanta. Hope this is helpful to others considering a trip up to. Keep in Mind we travelled with a 1-year-old thus we were constrained to museum type attractions.

We chose to go to Atlanta, because of the warm southern weather (outside the Zika zone), variety of kosher food options, and the availability of relatively short & direct flight from NYC, via Southwest (using miles).

Logistics

•   Flew Southwest on points (Direct from LGA).
•   Atlanta airport is relatively nice but very spread out. Passengers need to use train/trams to get between gate and the main terminal area, and between main terminal and rental car area. This adds time to boarding and getting car rental. On return trip (ATL to LGA) there was also a long line at security. Fortunately our flight was delayed, or we may have missed it, despite arriving reasonably early.
•   Stayed in Residence Inn Kennesaw, based on very positive online reviews (using 15K points/night, a good value for a 1-bedroom suite, free wi-fi and parking). This was a bit further out in the suburbs than realized.
•   We used Kosher GPS and Google Trips extensively, both were very helpful, this was supplemented by a little advance research on TripAdvisor
•   Parking is remarkably cheap in downtown Atlanta. Generally $10 to park all day in the Lot at the attractions, sometimes less for nearby Lots.

Attractions
•   Georgia Aquarium: Highly recommended. It’s an extraordinary aquarium, Ranked #1 in the county. It’s a bit pricy (even for an aquarium) at $40/pp, so we did the evening entry 30% off after 4pm (they are open till 9pm). We spent a few hours there, but some of the demonstrations are only available during the day.
•   World of Coca Cola: $16/pp. A must do for tourists, but it exceeded my expectations and was quite interesting. Spent several hours there.
•   Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta – Self guided tour – Free. We found it interesting. Spent about ~1.5 hours there.
•   Center for Civil and Human Right (Museum): We found it interesting. $16/pp
•   High Museum of Art: $16/pp. We found it interesting.
•   CNN tour: $16/pp, about 1 hour. I’ve seen similar studios before so I found it only moderately interesting
(These attractions are mostly within walking distance of each other, except Federal Reserve Bank, and Art Museum)

Kosher Food:
•   Atlanta Kosher Commission (AKC) has a website with a list of kosher restaurants, groceries etc. at  http://kosheratlanta.org/local-info/

We went to several venues listed below all were ok/good. All were under the AKC
•   Fuego Mundo – Meat/fine dining – food was exceptionally good. Priced well for the ambience and location. Menu offered unique southern options all of which we found to be quite good including; Yucca Fries, Fuega (banana) chips with salsa, and Sweet Plantains (banana).
•   Pita Palace – shwarma in Pita/lafa
•   Broadway Cafι – Dairy – Pizza/bagels/sandwiches/soups/etc.
•   Krispy Kreme Donuts – Location we went to (299 Cobb Pkwy) had a window into the operations where you can watch the donuts frying and moving along the conveyor belt, which was interesting.
•   Kroger Toco Hills – large grocery with kosher sushi (very reasonably priced).
