Is there a way to send this to Ars Technica?
This seems like a story they they would be interested in.
Agree. People should submit there (via website and tweeting) and to The Verge and probably WSJ. The more people that participate, the more likely the story will get picked up.
To digitally delete someone's life -- no hundreds of people's lives -- in one fell swoop for an
unrelated purchase of a few hundred phones for which the order was
paid for, accepted, and shipped, is troubling and should have far-reaching ramifications of how these companies control our data.
Further, what's really scary is that many services, including credit card companies and banks, require one's *old* email address to verify a change to a *new* email address. So those affected are forever locked out of their banks and credit card companies?! For buying a phone?
Google: Next time just cancel the order if you didn't want to accept it. Don't accept it, take the money, ship it, and then days later decide you're going to digitally delete the existence of hundreds of your users.
