One thing I'm having trouble understanding.
They ask for SMS verification to get back in but they ask you which number to send the text to.
Is that just to make you feel it's a security issue or are they comparing it to the number on file?

my spouse did to a different e-mail (the recovery address).

DP: I had an account banned that wasn't really used but I still wanted that email address. It wasn't automatically reinstated, but when I filled the disabled form again (I did it right away when it got banned but it got refused instantly) it worked about two minutes later. Thanks to all involved!

I did yes. To the email address that I put in the original form.

First of all, you need the phone to get the SMS. Secondly, IIRC they only display the last 4 digits of number.

1 of 3 accounts reenabled, baruch hashem. This was the most important one. Hopefully, the others will come soon.

I said that it was related to the recent mass bans, which were meant to be reinstated. I used non-google email as the address to be notified, but they never did notify. I just tried on my own 2 mins later.

They didn't show anything. I don't remember the exact wording but it was like, where do you want us to send the verification text?

Interesting. They are stressing in their email that you may backup and download your data at anytime using google takeout. They clearly realize that not giving access to the data was pretty extreme.

I had a cell number associated with my account and the text went there.

Well, they do that to protect themselves in the future, too. This way they can say, "remember back when that whole thing? Yeah, you should now know better we can suspend at any time and you should have been backing up. Not our problem. Peace!"
