Im not interested in buying extra storage on dropbox but the google backup is over 20 gb after i cut it down to just gmail and photos and contacts. I think my best option is to put it on an external HD.
Every day I become more aware of how much Google owns me

You can have it upload directly to your Dropbox or OneDrive
how? Can it be done with box?

I dont think it can be done automatically like with dropbox, but you can download the zip files and upload that to Box.

Before you start the takeout process it asks you how you want it, you have 4 options
  • Send download link via email
  • Add to Drive
  • Add to Dropbox
  • Add to OneDrive

Seems like Box isn't an official option, but I guess you can always do what @incendia offered
DDF A-Z Link Extension
Chrome
Firefox

Thanx, one more question do I have to be logged in to my gmail account while it's creating the backup, or can I log out and I'll receive an email when its done ?

You need to be logged on to start the process.

A few days later they will email you with links to download the zip files ( gmail account comes as an uncompressed database) You will have a week to download the files before the links expire.

In between you dont have to do anything or be logged on.

When using Google Takeout for Google Photos, besides for the pic what data is retained?

I.e. is the date, time, and location info still imbedded in the file? if upload the pictures back to google photos will the experience be the same?
