"When he is well enough, he works; when he is incapacitated, his own people take care of him. And not in a poor and stingy way, but with a fine and large benevolence. His race is entitled to be called the most benevolent of all the races of men. A Jewish beggar is not impossible, perhaps; such a thing may exist, but there are few men that can say they have seen that spectacle. The Jew has been staged in many uncomplimentary forms, but, so far as I know, no dramatist has done him the injustice to stage him as a beggar. Whenever a Jew has real need to beg, his people save him from the necessity of doing it. The charitable institutions of the Jews are supported by Jewish money, and amply. The Jews make no noise about it; it is done quietly; they do not nag and pester and harass us for contributions; they give us peace, and set us an example — an example which we have not found ourselves able to follow; for by nature we are not free givers, and have to be patiently and persistently hunted down in the interest of the unfortunate."
-Mark Twain, Concerning the Jews (Harper's Monthly, 1899)

Instead of asking people for money?? :o
It's easier to ask people for money to fix a broken car then to ask people to pay for the raise in monthly premiums for the guy whose car you borrowed when you hit a BMW.

Depends on the insurance he had. Even if he was covered for this incident, he likely wouldn't collect much after deductible.
What's a typical deductible? I always thought $500 was standard.

I've carried $1k at times. The increase in premiums for the $800 payout isn't justifiable, IMO.

There have been signs in Lakewood's Satmar shtiebel for a while now asking for miles/points
for a talmid chochom's travel expenses for cancer treatment. The number is 908-323-5749.

This guy does mindblowing stuff. I know a blind talmid chochom who can run a normal Jewish life thanks to him. He makes him any sefer he needs in Braille, and he can sit and learn the whole day only because of CSB. They also print Braille Mishpacha magazines and Circle magazines and other such stuff.

Updated:

This link was created by a friend of the family but has since been taken over by a group of community members and multiple rabbanim.  The funds are now  confirmed to being sent to the proper channels and will be made sure it’s being utilized properly to help the family who is in real need of all the help we can provide.

If you already donated tizku lemitzvos ! But now that this is in different hands we ask if you can re-evaluate what’s been given or if you haven’t done so yet please hit the link and donate.  These are terrible circumstances but this is what we are all here for and this is when we all step up like everyone has done in the past.

Tizku lemitzvos and we should only know of simchas

Dear friend,

Reb Shlomo Yehuda Silbiger, son of Reb Avrohom Silbiger Shlita of Manchester and grandson of the Gaavad Yerushalayim Shilta, was niftar Motzei Yom Tov at the young age of 43. He was a warm and loving father, a talmid chochom who learnt in the Gavaad’s Kollel for 18 years and worked hard during his spare time to bring in some parnassah.

He left behind his choshever wife and 12 children, 11 of whom are unmarried – the youngest just 6 weeks old and the oldest a Kallah 3 months before her wedding.

I don’t think we need to say more (there is plenty to say – like the fact that they live in a 2.5 bedroom apartment because they couldn’t afford anything bigger and now their special father, who supported the family both emotionally and financially, is no longer here.)

There is literally not a penny and the expenses they have are HUGE! We are trying our part and hope to raise $18,000.

Please open your hearts and donate whatever you can.
תזכו למצוות!

A relative of his decided to do it for him. He didn't put the relative name on to protect his privacy
