And how would you figure out which came first, the chicken or the egg? Either way it is a longstanding position in the fum world position to consider that worse.

The words "longstanding position in the frum world" sound funny to me. Torah is the "frum position," not what frum people feel. A bit of a pet peeve of mine...

I don't disagree and I think that this position came from the attitude people saw in their rabbeim etc.

Depends what your issue with this is.
If it's a fear that we will "learn" from him, then obviously it is a KV shel shtus.

But if it is that there is something inherently wrong, or "chillul hashem", with politically supporting someone who's personal life is objectional,  I would argue that if gd can separate the personal from the political, so can we
