Please share your experience with the $20 trick, include the hotel and location and date.


I only tried the $20 trick one in the palms Las Vegas this December ( Was a totally free trip!!). During check in I handed the person checking me in a 20 sandwiched in between my CC and licence. He kindly handed it back and said that they had no upgrades available. It was a little awkward.

I tried it at the Signature at MGM.  She pocketed it and asked me what I was looking for.  I asked for an upgrade from a studio to a 1 bedroom and she said she couldn't do that - I'd have to pay for that.  But she said she could give a room on a higher floor with a better view :-(
Oh well, u win some, u lose some.

iv'e never done it myself but ive told other people do and I know it has worked at harrahs. Iv'e seen other reports of it working at the venitian/pallazzo.

Yes and yes, but I usually stick to talking my way to a better room.

A couple times in Israel. Once at the Hyatt Mission Bay in San Diego. All my talking was getting me nowhere.

Its not something I've done often. I just told them I would greatly appreciate it and pulled out some $.

I did it at the intercontinental kowloon, hong kong. I wanted a harbor view but instead got an executive room city view. Was pretty annoying. Only advantage was when I realized would be hard to walk ten stories on shabbos he switched us even though we were already in the room a while.

The only time I ever tried it was leaving Israel many years ago with a bunch of suitcases.  I slipped  200 shekel between the passports and the fellow didn't bite.  He laughed asked me if I was trying to bribe him and gave me back my money.

isnt the passport the best place to keep the money if u want an excuse that your not bribing if he tries catching you?
you just say you leave your money in passport like a wallet

Worked for us at the Bellagio in Vegas during the free DD trip. $20 got us a sweet suite upgrade with a whirlpool and fountain view when just moments before there were no such suites available!

Yup, in Vegas the trick is practically accepted practice.
