rich guy with a ton of spg
« on: November 27, 2016, 02:40:41 PM »
I have a friend with a ton of spg points - he actually spends it at his law firm - doesn't need to do ms.
Anyway he wants to get to Israel in business class and doesn't care whether or not he gets saver awards.
I'm not to these type of questions here on DDF.
Other than the current promo to United where could I have him transfer his points?
I think the best would be for him to fly united but if we transfer to other alliances are we limited to United's saver availability?  He is not looking to spend a bunch on fuel surcharges.

In other words what is the best way to be stingy with money but careless with points?
Thanks!

Needs to fly direct?
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

Are people looking to dump SPG because of Marriott merger?

Once we're burning points the easiest thing is just to log into SPG flights and book whatever you want from there.

Thanks for your responses!l
It turns out I was wrong. He does not want to burn his points. He doesn't know what to do with them on the one hand but on the other hand doesn't want to get ripped off. I told him he should just sell them and buy a revenue ticket but he is concerned with taxes and other problems from selling his points.

So after spending time with him he understands that what he wants is a saver award but is not really willing to put in the time to find one. My guess is that he'll just buy a revenue ticket.

1. Trade points for a ticket instead of getting a check.
2. Pay someone a nominal fee to find availability and book.

In general, SPG is not the best currency to be starting with, as the flight needs to be available when points show up to the airline account, not when the transfer is initiated.
