I had a very different idea of what this thread would be when I read the title.
I think the most amazing thing about these dilemmas is that the torah gave us guidelines to solve them and we don't need to use our emotions to decide what is right (especially because everyone has different emotions (
I think that according to halacha: you always save yourself if it's shev val taaseh and you never save yourself if its kum v'asai
Unless they leave it up to the owner to decide how it's programmed. ( just like now it's up to you to decide )
Very interesting. Using always putting saving more human lives first, giving precedence to yourself when resulting in equal casualties, and not intervening when resulting in equal pedestrian casualties, this was result.
Since the government doesn't want to decide and the car companies don't want to get sued they may have to leave it up to the owner
That would only apply with an active driver, no? A self driving car should make things interesting. I would think that a self driving car (which is essentially a third party) should give precedence to minimizing casualties.
Ha! Government will decide. And it'll probably have no standing in Halacha.
