Any data points on what the gift registry can be used for? According to a rep and supervisor can only be used to purchase new ticket. No upgrades etc.

I just did the gift registry for $100 on 2 different PRG cards. The charge was made on 1/20 and has now posted. I'm waiting for the credit now. I assume it's just a few days like with most Amex credits. I have until mid-February to close the cards as my annual fee hit my January statement in the middle of the month.

It's really too bad the MPX option closed up. Amazon gift cards are as good as cash for me. None of the other options are particularly compelling for me. I did the United gift registry since I guess I might fly on United at some point but really who knows. If the MPX was still open I'd get the Business Platinum that Dan has been talking a lot about. But without MPX, I don't really have a very good use for the $200 + $200 credit so it's not worth anywhere near $400 for me.

The 50% rebate isn't all that great because I have no clue what airline I'm going to fly. Having to pre-pick the airline really hurts the value.

Obviously, the 100k MR is nice. However, I have a lot of points now. Not a lot by the standards here but a lot for me. Between Chase and Amex I'll have about 1 million points, between my wife and I. I don't have that many places to use them right now. I think we're going to have a family trip to Israel in 2.5 years and we might have a trip next January to Hawaii. But that's really all I have planned for the next few years. I also have 50k+ United, AA, Jetblue and Delta miles. There starts to get diminishing returns on points as you compile them without using too much. At this point I'd rather not pay for points. I'll still try and get them but I'm sticking to either fee free cards (first year waived fee) or near free cards like the CSR.
