Cleaning Lady - Security
« on: November 28, 2016, 07:37:06 PM »
We are looking for new cleaning help, and I told my wife that she must at least ask for the name and address of any new cleaning lady. Is this standard/reasonable? What do you do to protect yourself?

Whatever they steal is just to be expected as part of the cost. Just let them be aware that you are on top of things so they don't go overboard.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Um, a diamond ring shouldn't be just an ancillary cost of doing business.

Definitely not, and should not be accessible.

Master bedroom and office stays locked, and we are only down two spoons.
I'm not who you think I am.

Those are more likely to have gone in the garbage

It's quite Ironical that you chose a diamond ring thinking who leaves their diamond ring in a place where they have access,

Funny to mention that I had a cleaning lady who went to clean the master bedroom and to my surprise I see the diamond ring is missing so she came down stairs I mentioned did you see any diamond ring ?!so she answers No mis no mis so I said go back upstairs and look good for it, I said it was there when It was there I remember putting it there and you must have dropped it, go back and look for that ring, two minutes later she comes running down miss miss I found it .....

Mussur haskal a guiy is a guiy, makes no difference whether you have her address or name, phn number, you got to just be careful and watch out for missing things!

Every cleaning lady steals out there, btw that cleaning lady was the best one we had (had her for around 10+ yrs until she went back to Mexico, )

For all the comments forthcoming about why it was left alone with her in the room, kasha of a maasa, this was a a weekly thing 2-3 times a week she would come and it was left so many times and never touched!

Talking about cleaning ladies I had one as well who randomly asked if I can move your dining room chairs to clean, so I responded sure, why would she think not! I was in the kitchen next door at that time, to make a long story short she went and opened the break front while moving the chairs and stole a miniture or two! .......

Wasn’t sure where to post.

After reading the following story which went around a few weeks ago, I am concerned about this.

https://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/general/1590546/mailbag-my-cleaning-lady-just-sued-me-youve-been-warned.html

I recently hired a full time help (babysitter) that watches a few baby’s in our house for a bit more than. 40 hours a week.

There seams to be 2 main concerns:
1- overtime hours (which are not so much in my case).
2- liability insurance (or workers comp).

Most people I have asked have no idea about these issues.

Anyone know how to protect yourself from these issues or know of someone (a lawyer I suppose) I can contact that can help with this?

Thanks for the reply.

Do you know any more info regarding that?

1- does umbrella insurance cover that liability
2- how much do these policies go for?
3- do you need a “business” for a workers comp policy?
4- can you get workers comp for an illegal worker?
