Metromile- Pay-Per-Mile Car Insurance
« on: December 04, 2016, 08:46:11 AM »
I came across this company Metromile that offers very cheap car insurance for those that don't drive so many miles each month. I did a quote which shows I would save ~$100/month (40%) if I drive a combined 1500 miles a month between my 2 cars. I didn't sign up yet but ik strongly considering it.

Nerdwallet has a good write up about it:

It's only available in 7 states including NJ, CA, IL, WA, OR, PA, VA.

During the lockdowns it was recommended to update your policy with how many miles you were currently using - approaching zero.
You should see if your current insurer will give you a better rate based on the mile you drive.

I used to use them a few years back. I saved a bunch of money in the beginning, because I didn’t drive so far. However, I got in a tiny fender bender which only caused like $400 and the other person claimed it from my insurance. And then they nearly doubled my policy for next time that it was cheaper by many other insurances that it wasn’t worth it anymore
