Yes, it is disgusting. But they have nothing to lose. Why not? I'm sure people send them money just to make it go away.

That's why I want to have a lawyer send them a letter saying "if you have a claim against my client, we'll see you in court. Otherwise, never contact him again or we'll sue you for harassment."

Talk is cheap, with no papers from the police or witnesses or some pictures or any of the above, what can one claim against you? Printing up an ordinary piece of paper to claim money? You should do the same to them! Wonder if they would write out a check to you and if they do send it right back for the claim against you, but assuming they won't do anything so you shouldn't be bothered by It, just sit tight and let time go by.....

My daughter fell in my rented apartment and was taken to the hospital, they held here for 20 hours and did a CAT scan.

A few weeks later I got a letter on behalf of my insurance co, asking what other insurance we have, property, renters.

I researched it and it was coming from a company that buys the info from our medical insurance company and tries to get others to pay.
As it wasn't registered and did not see any basis for having to give them the info, I ignored the 3 letters that came. Haven't heard from them after.

The insurance company gets paid to run interference and make educated decisions.   I'm not implying paying anyone.  I'm saying let them see the letter and do or not do based on their expertise.

The fallacy lies in your assumption that the insurance company is going to do what's best for you; they're not. They're going to do whatever is best for them. They could easily say that they're not paying for the damages because there's no proof and then go ahead and raise your premium anyway.

And there are plenty of people who think like him which is precisely WHY it is worth it for Enterprise to send out such an outrageous letter. It costs them the price of a stamp but could be an easy windfall for them.
