Is there a general consensus for the best Israeli bank account to open for olim chadashim?

Also is there any american bank account that is recommended that is best in conjunction with an Israeli one?

As in an American bank and an Israeli bank that maybe has some kind of partnership so if I'd transfer money to/from one another it wouldnt have so many fees. Does that exist?  I am aware of schwab, fidelity and capone 360 having atm reimbursements,  which are great for smaller ATM withdrawals, but for bigger transaction amounts, was wondering if there's something that exists.

I'm not aware of any.
What amounts are you referring to?

Citi might have something like that for people with lots of cash.  If your worried about wire fees, your probably not one of them :)

Eventually, that is the plan. :P Coming in as a student, but I am talking long term for a mortgage, car, etc. Can you even use credit cards for any of those types of payments here!? I just heard about Isratransfer as well. Maybe that's the way to go?

Beware!

Discount Bank on Yecheskel.  On 3 separate instances after I put in amount to withdraw the ATM said it could not provide service yet STILL DEBITED MY ACCOUNT.  Once was about a year ago with a TD card and twice recently with a Cap1 card.  TD credited me provisionally within a week and finally after about two months.  Still waiting to see what happens with Cap1.

ETA:  They have two ATMs, one inside and one outside.  This has happened at both.

mizrahi takes 6.70 shek a month plus 1.76 per bank trans (deposit withdrawal transfer ect.) but the trans are free until 6.70 meaning if you do 4 trans a month it will cost a total of 7.04 per month.
next is the card. the cartis direct (debit card with 9 digits) costs about 5 shek a month, and it doesn't work for the phone company or lots of other things. I got a cartis beinleumi (international), its free the first 6 months and after that you can bargain with them, and it works as a bank card as well. good luck!!

Not sure when u opened ur account but my fess are something like this: about 15 shek a month. all transactions with the teller are 6.70 depositing checks in the envelope is 1.?  All fees go into the monthly fee anything more you pay for. Debit card is 20 shek a year for a card that just does withdrawals a card that you can use elsewhere was maybe 5 shek a month not sure exactly I didn't pay attention so much because I'm not gonna be using it for too much. This is what I was told don't know what's actually gonna happen.

First they tried closing all foreign accounts without 50k, when the government stopped them I guess they decided they will do the slumlord move and make life hell so you leave on your own. I don't want to go to TLV every time I need to bank, don't do me any favors.

I fail to see how any of this makes it a "messed up system".

Still stand by this?!  ???

There was a recent court ruling against Leumi involving an Eilat-based money changer.

Leumi out of the blue sent him a notice that he had to conduct all his banking in Tel Aviv.

He sued and the court sided with him, issuing an order forcing Leumi to continue to provide services in Eilat.

Maybe look at sone kind of class action with the ruling as a precedent?
