Amex Vs. Chase
« on: December 19, 2016, 06:30:37 AM »
I am sure this has been asked before so please direct me to the question.
What is the benefit over the Amex Platinum over the Chase Sapphire Reserve or vice versa.
If I am going for one why should I go for one over the other, how do I chose or what is the better card?

I do have a few chase already....

Thanks.

Amex platinum :
- 40k MR $3k spend
- $200 airline credit (limit one credit to one airline a year ymmv)
- GE credit
- TSA PC credit
- 5x points on travel

Amex business plat :
- 100k MR $15k spend
- basically same benefits as above
- %50 points back when using points through amex travel ( 2 cpp)

Chase reserve :
- 100k UR $4k spend
- GE credit
- three points on travel etc.. categories
- UR rated at 1.5 cpp when redeeming through UR travel

Without going through it all.thats the basic . In terms of what's best for you you have to weigh in which program, spend , benefits and partners to transfer to suits you best . Nobody here can tell you what YOU prefer . If it's just about more points for your buck then the answer is clear . If you have more preferences then it's up to you decide . With a lot of us here , we're not taking a calculation of either or , we get as much as we can get our hands on .

In terms of where the most appropriate place to ask a question like this which you are asking for , I would think that maybe
http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=33101.0 would be the place .

Good luck !

FTFY

Why would anyone who travels want to get banned from both?

Long term cards DO exist.

I personally feel like those 2 hybrid cards are more valuable than any miles card at this point and think a lot of people can benefit from having both.

I always book First/Business no matter what route I fly, so for domestic travel, the pay with points options for those cards are great.

Why would you fly business on short haul domestic?

Why would I not? Or maybe I should ask why you would not?

Because I enjoy the extra space and because I can. I set my standards high I guess, but that's what I expect from a flying experience.  I don't do cattle class airlines like Southwest either.

There's nothing wrong with setting personal standards, and mine don't have to agree with yours.

The question is why is worth the extra points/cost, for the small increase in comfort?

Because:
This is my decision.
I consider it more than a small increase in comfort.
I would pay and have paid cash to do the same thing.
I have enough points and miles to do it.
The increase in cost is minimal on my regular routes.
My standards do not have to agree with yours.

The best thing about the AMEX Pt,  especially the business version,  is the massive purchasing power it gives you.  AMEX wants your spend...all of it.
