VZ Fios
« on: May 01, 2011, 06:11:36 PM »
does anyone know of a good rep who can help me switch out of IO? I think it may be time to try out VZ Fios. I currently have a great deal going with IO, but i think the service of VZ might be something id like to try out. Looking for a great deal please.

What part of NYC are you in? What do you think FIOS will offer you that IO doesn't?

Im on Long Island and have Fios and love it.  Generally, verizon customer service reps all have the same offers that they will give you.  Try calling and telling them what your deal with IO is and ask if they can do better.  Keep in mind that verizon charges taxes that IO does not.  Always have them give you quotes including all taxes and fees, they sometimes lie about it but then you can call up and complain after and they usually do something to keep you happy.

I'm strongly considering switching from optimum to Fios, since the price is almost exactly the same. Aside from losing the free optimum wifi, does optimum have any other advantages, or any other reasons I should hesitate before switching?

The Fios plan does go up another $10 (from $50/month to $60) after the first yr. or a 2-yr contract. On the other hand, Fios is supposed to be more reliable, and while my optimum plan was pretty basic, the Fios is 50/50. Then again, I was generally fine with my optimum speeds, unless it was glitching out.

FIOS may cost you an additional 10 bucks in taxes and fees. Plus they charge for equipment rental.

I'm wondering the same thing. Trying to decide between TWC which would be $45 a month with a free router, or FiOS for $50 a month, plus additional fees for router etc.

IME, yes (based in PIT). Still have a credit balance from the $10 off $75 "cell phone" offer from last year.

I got a router off amazon for $30, and they sent me a quote that supposedly includes taxes and fees...I seem to have gotten a vibe that no matter what they say, they'll be adding more taxes and fees. Is that accurate?

Don't understand these things too much.
TWC has an internet plan of 100 Mbps for $44.99 a month. Free router. $44.98 activation/installation fee.
Verizon FiOS internet only plan is 50/50 Mbps for $49.99 a month. Plus $10 a month to rent the router. $80 activation/installation fee.
Why would I go with fios ? Seems like their charging more for a inferior product. Am I missing something here ?

My reason for switching would be that they're supposed to be more reliable. On the other hand, someone just posted in the "optimum internet" thread that Verizon's CS is awful, and even trying to get an incorrect bill fixed can be virtually impossible.

So now, feeling torn.

The regular Verizon offer. Had it on all personal MR earning cards.
