Spirit $9 fare club

I'm considering flying a family group on Spirit. If I do it, I want to buy the tickets at the airport to save the online booking fee, whatever they call it. I'd get the most savings by getting the trial 90-day $9 fare club membership for $20, but apparently the only way to join is to book a ticket online. Any tricks for getting the trial membership?

First make sure that the $9 club works on airport counter purchases. See below, bolded mine. I have no experience, though.

anyone know a promo code to buy membership in the Spirit Air $9 club for less? The luggage fees are crazy!
and i have a flight booked for next week, where just the luggage will cost $110

Just a heads up that the $19.95 trial for the $9club, that is offered when you check out, only works on future flights. Perhaps a way to use this would be to get it then cancel your ticket with in 24 hours and then quickly rebook, as now you are in the $9 club. GL.
