I would rather LH via MUC/FRA which has much better airport services, having flown both many times. That being said if it's your first time on EK F it is exciting and worth it. I'll be on it in a few hours iyh.

There's a special upgrade rate with miles, it's a little more than the general miles difference.

Does anyone know if it's safe to travel on Emirates from NY to DUBAI with a stopover in ATH or MILAN, with my chassidishe hat and peyos, tefilin? any data points?

I recently flew EWR-ATH, even put on tefillin during the flight. No issues whatsoever.
