Worth booking Emirates/Aegean (through Emirates) if the best price is only available on tight layovers in ATH (1.5H TLV-EWR, 40 min EWR-TLV) - with the whole family? The way in, I understand Emirates only flies once, so rebook would be next day - unless they have someone else to put you on? And the way back, would Aegean put us on the next flight?
Assuming, of course, that Aegean is flying then.  :)
I wouldn't consider except: 1) Emirates and 2) My mother prefers EWR over JFK but everything else EWR is already not affordable. And before you ask, same goes for El Al.
1.5 hours in ATH is more then enough, 40 minutes is a bit tight but Aegean operates multiple flights a day ATH-TLV so they'll put you onto the next available flight if you miss it

I had a 55 minute layover in ATH with dw, infant, and toddler. First flight was delayed resulting in ~35 minute layover. We parked at a bus gate and next flight was from a bus gate and still made in time.

As the last option left that I could afford, I booked this one. If they fly, they fly. If not, I'll stay in EY for Pesach.
TLV-EWR, connection in ATH (1.5h in, 55m back), Wed 2/Apr to Wed 23/Apr, Emirates and Aegean.
If anyone else is interested, they are charging $800 for a regular ticket on this date and a few others:
Departs April 2nd, 6th, 7th, 8th. Returns April 23rd, 26th, 27th and 28th. There are probably more but this is what I looked at.
@Darth1 @ShimonFly @yfr bachur Thanks for your input, wouldn't have made the plunge without you.
It is pretty amazing that this was the cheapest Pesach flight...

Emirates delayed my luggage by 2 weeks. I submitted request online for reimbursement for a few thousand dollars of interim replacement items. It's almost 3 months and they haven't responded to my claim. I called in many times and they acknowledge the claim was received but say there's a backlog. Any way to move it along quicker for s favorable response?

Hi- I am hoping somone can help! I looked everywhere but don’t see any resolution to the skywards family issue. I have 100k sitting in family and can’t seem to do anything with it. It’s always 102k or 103k that I would need and can’t add to it. Anyone have any ways around this or ideas of how to use the whole 100k? Thanks for any help!

Flights to MXP Milan Italy and ATH Athens Greece are 17.5k in economy and have sometimes availability in business for 80k, there both great for connections to TLV.

Thank you. Great idea.
Any ideas on how to get a few thousand more into the family account so I don’t have to leave any over?

My booking shows only 2 checked bags on the ATH-TLV segments of the flight (by Aegean but with TK numbers). The 7kg carry-on allowance shows only on the ATH-EWR segments. I chatted with Emirates and they assured me that the carry-on allowance goes for both. I assume I can rely on this? Can anyone who flew this tell me for certain?
(I got a transcript of the chat - should I print it and bring it or Aegean won't care?)

The first segment is TLV-ATH in this screenshot.

You can transfer from Chase.

I booked from JFK to MXP on EK in J and from MXP to TLV on ELAL in Y. (2 separate tickets)
Can I tag my bags in NY directly to TLV or will I need to pick them up in MXP and check them in again?
I don't want to pay for extra suitcases on the 2nd leg.
Thanks!

My son is flying back to Israel tonight through Athens. His hand luggage and carry on are overweight.  Does anyone know if emirates weighs them? (Or on arkia, his connecting flight)

Emirates in EWR is generally not so strict (JFK has some really strict and nasty staff) however beware that Emirates only has 1 carry on and no personal item

I flew with them now for Sukkos, they do weigh the hand luggage and was a little overweight the agent was being strict but the supervisor let it go. Also personal item is not officially allowed, but I got through with one.

So to update, they weighed everything. He moved things from his carry on to his checked luggage, which made his checked luggage overweight,  but they didn't seem to care. Then they made him check his carry on for free and ignored his very overweight Knapsack. So worked out ok because they were nice.

YMMV, I flew from EWR for Sukkos and they were extremely strict.
PM me for a good deal on flights
