Receiving 100k amex plat promo without being targeted

On the drop down list, the cancelled cards dont come up...you just chose a different one?

I called and was transferred to Membership Rewards from the Travel representative.  I mentioned the code and the rep immediately said she would note my account to give me the additional 50k, but that I would have to call back after the initial 50k post to have the additional points credited (she said she couldn't put the points in immediately).  She assured me that it was noted in my account and that when I call back it will be seen and credited. 

I'm a little nervous as I would obviously prefer the points now, but I think it should work.

Just tried the same for the wife. Will probably be denied as i mentioned it was just cancelled (didnt want them to confuse with the new one she just got). I probably should have just gave last 5 digits. Oh well. Sent to social media too. We shall see. I can always call for her. That worked yesterday on my "active" card

Just tried it on my plat amex that was canceled less than 2 weeks ago - will see what happens...

I think its really generous of amex to even contemplate giving additional sign up bonuses on cards that are already canceled but I am certainly not complaining
