taking a random thought here, but maybe something like a roomba? I heard they actually work, and are quite cool.
Not a bad idea. I'll run it by the wife

My aunt is doing us a huge favor (worth multiple thousands of dollars) and not charging us for it. I am looking to buy her a gift-$500-$1000. She is really off the beaten path (think non matching socks).
Any ideas are appreciated.

Maybe buy her some of that funky furniture at HomeGoods that suits her style.

Getting a woman a roomba as a present is not a good idea for several reasons.

+1 unless she's the type that would totally appreciate it I wouldn't go with a vacuum for a gift.

Then again you're the only one who really knows her.

It's actually a wonderful idea in this situation. Thinking about going with a roomba and a nest2

-Most women don't want to be given something that has to do with household chores as a present, even if it's something that will make said chores easier.
-Most women don't want to be given something that can in any way imply they need help in a certain area as a present.

If you know otherwise then go for it but those are dangerous waters to swim in.
An iPad or even a gift card is a heck of a lot safer.

You should get items to make household chores easier, but not as a present.  A present is supposed to be something nice that doesn't relate to household duties.

Some woman (and even some men) find kitchen appliances to be nice gifts.

+1. I agree but you have to know the person.

And it depends on the reason for the gift as well IMO.

Looking for a B/D gift for my husband, I haven't found any ideas in their thread that I like.

He's very into Clothing, fashion, technology, gadgets.

I have previously bought him cuff links, cologne, ties, sunglasses, watches, ipad, bose headphones.

Anyone have any ideas? Maybe a cool gadget?

What if the grill pan came with you cooking two steaks in it along with a bottle of wine?

Would be a nice meal but wouldn't get me off the hook for a bday present.
