you could purchase a one-way ticket with 700 matmid points. to get your additional 80 you could transfer from any Amex membership reward program. I don't remember exactly how much MR comes out to be 1 matmid points. but it definitely pays. I did this in a similar case recently.

can anyone use them? what are they good for?

they are really good for one way tickets. For instance if s\o needs to fly back to the US for good in the summer then it would cost him around $550 for a matmid ticket vs. $1050 for a paid ticket. Points can also be used for business class upgrades on an upgradeable class. I need to find an agent who works with these type of points.

And what would that help you? Transfers in don't extend the life of the miles earned from travel as those expire regardless after 3 years. Gosh

You can transfer 300 more miles into the matmid account and now you have 700 and then before the points expire you can issue a voucher valid for a year.

For sure dont let them go - you can issue luggage vouchers for a free luggage for around 120 points and you can also donate them worse comes to worse
