7.5 hour layover in Rome - possible to do any sightseeing?
« on: January 03, 2017, 10:57:16 AM »
Is it possible to do any sightseeing with a layover in FCO for 7 hours and 25 minutes with the flight landing at 8:05 AM and the connection departing at 3:30 PM (without risking missing the connection)?

No kids, just 2 adults.

I would.
time how long it takes you from the airport to your destination
then give yourself double
You'll prob end up with a 9am-12pm or 12:30pm
day

use google maps layout what you plan to do.

Any suggestions of what's good to see with only 3 hours of time in the morning hours?

Coliseum and its surrounding area, vatican city (if allowed...), jewish synagogue is marvelous. Otherwise its just like any other European City, boring and overrun by graffiti :P

You should definitely leave the airport.

I am not an expert flyer but that doesn't sound like a ton of time ... Coliseum is cool but is best with a tour, if you can squeeze that in its a good call. I don't think you have enough time for vatican/sistine chapel... If you want you can keep it simple - walk around rome there are probably some free audio walking tour apps, and see a cpl things like the trevi fountain, spanish steps, pantheon and just general culture. Maybe uber over to Baghetto dairy for a bite.

Just ran 3 destinations into Google:

Collesium - 35 min ride
Trevi Fountain - 45 min ride
Shul/Ghetto- 35 mins

So, if you want to be in airport 1.5-2 hours before, you'd need to leave wherever you are by 1pm latest.

If you assume 30 mins to get through airport, you can be in town by 9:30. For 3+ hours, I say do it if you've never been to Rome.
