reviving this thread for a bit...

posted in a few places and still looking for a reliable cheap way from newark to 5 towns.. uber lyft is at 90/65 respectively..can I get it lower? :o

As a driver, can I ask you what you are willing to pay? The tolls alone with ezpass discount are at least $23 if your driver is going back to NJ which he probably is at some point. Depending on what time of day it can be anywhere from a 1 to 2 hour trip.  What do gas and wear and tear cost?  The Lyft driver is probably making less than minimum wage. The Uber maybe. I personally dont take less than $80 from Brooklyn to Newark and ~$60+ to JFK for a big SUV. So your choices are very cheap already. Train will eat up 2 hours too and cost you about half.
