Still good singer comparison. That will put perspective on many things. It goes both ways, though. She made some cops look like they were planning to be evil, contriving murderers on a recent video.

I actually think that such a statement should be considered to at the very least have racial undertones, if not outright racist.

When I asked to shift the discussion, and used all those adjectives, I am really trying to understand how could something like that happen in the USA in 2017.

There are a few elements here:

• Cruelty - Unfortunately, we know that kids (especially if not taught better by their parents and educators) can be cruel, especially to someone less fortunate. However these were all adults (though young).
• Hate - Despite the WH press secretary having difficulty, I think most reasonable people would say that there was hate involved here. Hate is a very strong emotion, but often comes from a lack of maturity or intelligence.
• Stupidity - There are so many elements of that in this case. Why make a video? Why post it online? etc. etc.

I think America should have an open, probably painful, discussion, as to how could something like this have happened. My initial thought when I read about injuring the scalp, was of Jeffrey Dahmer! Now that was one sickening person acting alone, not a group of people acting together, joking and filming the acts, and then posting them online. I think there is a major cultural breakdown at the root of this, and it should be confronted and addressed, rather than avoided.

Because there is an accepted current of casual racism within the frum community that people pretend doesn't exist when we're having discussions online with people like you around. Then we'll go kicking and screaming chilul Hashem for all kinds of other things, but when someone like MBD slips "Kushi" out in concert, on video, we'll twist ourselves into pretzels to defend him rather than admit it is something we hear in the mikvah every other day.

Nah. I've been around. I'm from South Africa - you know how many people joke with me that I probably wish for the good old apartheid days? Mind you, they don't know what apartheid meant, but nonetheless.

It's not an issue limited to the frum community. Every community will have its prejudices. We can only deal with our own issues. But this is not widely viewed as an issue
