It's all about experiencing the ancient past, enjoying the modern and advanced present/future and watching the spots where the past and the future come together.

Nice job MeirS! As I started reading the wiki "This is my first attempt at..." I was sure it'll finish with the words "...putting together an itinerary for an Israel trip".  :)

I also like the way you finished off the with some suggestions in purple. :D

I may be in the minority here but I think it's worthwhile to hire a good tour guide. Many Israeli tour guides are very knowledgable and can enrich your experience exponentially.

-1 if he's well prepared. The tour-guide for the type of tour he's looking for will be a total ripoff. The really good ones are for those that Jewish heritage/history specifically is what they are looking for. But again MHO only.

As far as hotels probably best to stay at the WAJ. If you want to drive through Meah Shearim on Shabbos all you need to do is sit in the front seat and leave your wife in the back. (Make sure her hair is covered and she looks in pain)

Unless I can grab an award flight with out much time invested this is a sure winner for me.
Air Canada, Delta, or United are $3.3K from ORD-TLV via YYZ, JFK, or EWR. That should be about 165K AMEX Biz Plat points after 50% rebate.
Can't go wrong with any of those.

Air Canada isn't on the Amex plat airline list, no?

Hilton certs, get the CC or buy for 200-250.
But honestly isn't much need, just stay by one of the cheaper ones.

A visit to the Bedouins in Midbar Yehuda (jeeping). I did it this past summer. It was awesome. It's not just visiting history, it's watching it live! Must be done on a jeep tour. I did a 2 hour tour. Longer tours are available too. Anyone else here did that?
