Downgraded my SP to FU a few weeks before annual fee was to hit. They even credited me for a portion of last years annual fee ($7.92 to be exact). Points stay as UR. Only thing about doing it mid cycle - if you ate a restaurant or booked travel, you likely will not get the 2x points for those purchases unless you SM or call. They credited me the points for that after a quick call.

So downgrading SP to FU will get the bonus?

Any downside downgrading SP to FU?
Yes
No, but you won't get the bonus and won't be able to get it for 2 years.

Based on this it seemed like we would get the bonus.  I trust a few ddfers who agree (no witty games, please  ::) ) more than I do the CSRs.

ETA Is the "-1" referring to no bonus or not in 2 years?

You won't get it when you downgrade but if you sign up for it later you can still get it.

My plan would be to clean my credit, get the SPReserve at a branch for the bonus on the same day I apply online for a 3BM.  Also, to downgrade the SP to the FU in the process (at branch or during recon?).  This will allow me to take advantage of first quarter gas.

What about upgrading? If I upgrade Sapphire to csr can I still get csr bonus down the road?

FU doesn't get you extra points on gas, you're thinking of the old Freedom.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

When was it billed to you?
The CSR told me that if I downgrade to the FU, I will not get the bonus even if I've never had the FU before.  She said you only get a bonus if you apply directly, not downgrading.  ??

i downgraded about 3 weeks after it was billed, and No you will not get the bonus by downgrading. you must apply directly to get any bonus.

Dan said it'll be available in branch until March
Plus maybe "pre-approved" much bigger chance in branch
