I'm using an iPhone and no such luck.
Maybe it's just a referral for first time users. Did you click on it?

Doesn't seem like iPhone app can request uber from within the app (without redirecting to Uber)

Update: Finally took a ride today via Google Maps.

I followed the prompts and it connected my Uber account to the Gmaps app - I didn't need to open the Uber app at all. Gmaps showed me the driver's progress, and then, once I got in, the ride progress, natively in Gmaps.

I took the ride and the $15 promo did indeed apply, though I have an existing account.

Was the trip charged to the card on your uber account or the one on Google?

I had Uber credits which got deducted automatically, so I'm not sure.

I would assume it's the one in Uber, though.
