No one is being laid off. All warehouse employees will have the option of keeping their current jobs in the new warehouse, or possibly switching over to the Manhattan location.

Relocating a large warehouse impacts a great many people, for better or for worse. As many have pointed out, the commute to NJ is not a simple matter, and neither of course is relocating to live closer. The main reason that our search took three years is because we wanted a location that worked for both the company's needs - and more importantly - the employees' best interests. There will likely be many people who choose not to follow the warehouse to NJ; deciding to go ahead with this location was an incredibly difficult decision to make for this very reason.

The press release is not apologetic; it explains, quite frankly, the reasoning behind this move.

Too bad they didn't build a fulfillment center in upstate NY instead.

We looked in NY for several years and were unable to find a suitable location. Crain's New York Business reported on our efforts as long ago as Oct 2013.

Benefits New Jersey customers can anticipate, as soon as our new facility is up and running, we will be able to extend order cutoff times for free next day delivery from 3:30PM/4:00PM to approximately 7:00PM. In addition, we will have a new customer pickup option for New Jersey customers who need their orders right away. Finally we are actively exploring options for same day delivery to large parts of New Jersey.
