Still worth it IMHO.
I trims better with the guards.
It shaves cleaner w/o the guards.
The guards are small, so you don't crush your nose when you trim your mustache, as you do with the peanut.

I don't know how long it will last. But my peanut died after 1 an a half years, and I only use it like every 3 weeks.
