The SD1400 has HD video recording, and clearer than the 1300.

As was mentioned elsewhere on the forums, if you don't mind a factory refurbished camera, you can send in any broken canon camera to them and receive a nice discount on a different factory refurbished one. If you don't have a broken camera to send in, someone suggested that you can buy a broken one on ebay for a few dollars.

Asher,

The reason is so high is due to the fact of Japan and its not gona go down for at lest 3 more months, the production lines our still not 100 percent.

So if you could wait then wait

How would you know if any of the circuitry is made in China? I don't think each part is labeled separately with country of origin...

Right, so that would explain why a camera that is made in China can be delayed due to factory disruptions in Japan.

Would anyone have more info on this offer? I have a broken canon lying around and can do with a new one. Did a quick search but didnt get me anything.

From a different site:

Quote
Customer Loyalty Program's direct number is 866-443-8002 , option 2 for digital camera upgrades.

) Specify that you have a broken Canon XYZ camera and would like to know what the loyalty upgrade options are. They will try to transfer you to a technician, but you can tell them you just want to know the prices first and the rep can give them to you.

2) Once you are ready, call again. This time, you will get transfered to a technician, who will ask you to desribe the issues. They would verify that 1) it's broken* and 2) it's out of warranty (just say you've had it for a over a year). Then, he would ask for the broken camera's serial number, your name, phone, address and email.

(*TIP: if you specify water damage, e.g., it won't turn on after it got wet, they will accept it as broken for sure)

3) The technician will give you the prices as well, then transfer you back to the loyalty program rep, who will take your name, phone, address again as well as your credit card. You will get the order number.

See "Canon Loyalty Trade-In Prices" for recent quotes on trade-in prices

4) Canon will ship you the replacement camera with FedEx signature required, along with a prepaid FedEx label and a box for you to ship your broken camera to them. You must ship it to them within 10 business days to avoid unreturned product fee. You only need to ship the camera body, so you can keep all accesories (batteries, charger, straps, etc.).

That's actually a great deal for someone who doesn't mind buying an older model camera.

It's $80 cheaper than it is on Amazon, and it ranks 4/5 stars. - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0035FZJJO/?tag=cl03f-20
