The real answer is...it depends.

If I was flying to BOB for 5 nights and had to fly one-way in whY, then I probably would do the return.
But if I was flying to hike Machu Picchu for a couple of days then I'd want to go into in well-rested in order to hit the ground running.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

unfortunately Ill be doing the opposite even though I agree that flying in Y and returning in J is better.

Flying jetblue mint to LAX and flying back with this deal http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=69612.msg1614741#msg1614741

Getting a deal like that almost takes away the pain of flying whY (Ilike that)!

Indeed. That certainly softens the blow.  I just cancelled about a dozen of those trips; couldn't make any work.

That's a good point.

If time on the ground is so short that arriving well-rested would save a trip that would otherwise be very difficult timing-wise (see Machu example), I'd agree.

Good point.

Also if either of the flights was a red eye than that would take preference to go business. Or first.

I don't remember where I saw it, but there was a similar one somewhere where it turned out that that poster was himself.
