Advice/Math-Check on the Current Marriott CC offers
« on: January 26, 2017, 10:54:44 PM »
Please let me know if my math is correct and your thoughts.
Currently there are two offers I am considering to use for my 5th of 5/24.
1. 80,000 Marriot Rewards after $3K + 7500 for AU (+the usual, anniv. free night...)
2. 5 Marriot Points per dollar for the first year upto $30K/150,000 Marriot Rewards + 7500 Marriot Rewards.

So here is the craziness...

Spending $30K on option 1. will net 117,500 MRP = 39,167 SPG
                                     2. will net 157,500 MRP = 52,500 SPG

In practicality If I go with option 1. then I wouldn't spend all $30K on the card, It would be split between 1. and the SPG card, so then a new and the best option is to do this
                                     3.  $3k for min. spend on option 1. = 87,500 MRP = 29,166 SPG + $27K spent on my SPG card = 56,166 SPG

any alternate opinions or confirmations would be great.
Thank You!

PS: I'm platinum SPG, I travel to Asia a lot so I convert most of my SPG into miles, I rarely have an opportunity to benefit from any of the other perks of the cards.

                                     3.

I would find out if you can convert option 1 to option 2 once you get the sign up bonus. Also the Marriott biz card has the same offer as option 1, but isn't subject to 5/24. The math is definitely good. If you have an spg card already, (which it sounds like you do), i would definitely suggest option 1, with the 30k spend on your spg

No problem. Once were on the subject I would say to apply for 2 cards that are subject to 5/24 at the same time 2bm. The odds are very high of getting both thru. Some have even been successful with 3

actually, , wouldn't it make sense to get the Marriot pers. $30K/150,000 for everyday spend at 1.6 SPG per $ and the Marriot biz $3K/87,500 for the sign up?

Most people around here won't open a card that gives 1.6ppd if it has no sign-up bonus.

Yep, definitely try for 3.

Why not get both $3K/87,500 for the sign ups? Your math before was good and still applies even if you also get the business card.

Spend $3k on each and then use your SPG card for everyday spend unless you can do this:
I would find out if you can convert option 1 to option 2 once you get the sign up bonus.
