Not a big fan, but it is much cheaper.
Can you pay with an AMEX?
Specs?

Any thoughts on "Gateway" netbook, i know someone who can get me one for under $175.

Don't go there...

I'd spend the money on a Sammy.  Gateway isn't exactly known for quality products.

+1

Even for double the price?

Yes, see below, where I discuss specs.

Isn't this forum great :)

Nah, you're just biased.

/ducks.

Specs?

I think specs is a determining question, because if it's crippled (i.e. underpowered), you don't want to spend $175 on something that'll just give you heartache, especially considering that you have $400 to spend.

If you're willing to up your budget to $449, here's a 14" Dell or a 15.6" Samsung you might like. Both have Intel's Core i3 processor and the Samsung has 4gb of RAM (the Dell has only 3gb). I can't speak for quality, but spec-wise, you'll be more than happy IMHO.

Your best bet is a netbook if you want that kind of battery life. Preferably a flash based HDD, and maybe a second battery. I'd say the $99 Sammy is a good value (spec-wise, can't speak for quality), but this is the first I'm hearing of your battery expectation. You probably want a second battery whichever system you get...

Looks like it's extremely overpriced, and hasn't dropped below $850. Best current price is $862 on eBay for a new one (careful, seller has a shady rating), and $899 for an open-box one at TigerDirect.
