Topic Wiki

Below is a link to a list of modems that are compatible with Optimum. Depending on the speed you have you will need to get a modem that can accommodate that speed.
A modem has channels that represent the speed it can handle. It's displayed as download channels x upload channels, so a 16x8 modem means it has 16 download channels and 8 upload channels.

It's not recommended to get anything lower than 16X8 since speeds are only going up in the future.
Chart showing the channels needed to support the Optimum speed

  • Optimum 100, 8x4 or higher
  • Optimum 200, 16x8 or higher
  • Optimum 400, 24x8 or higher

There are many modems available on Craigslist's and eBay as well, there is no need to buy a new one as long as it's compatible.
https://pickmymodem.com/approved-modems-for-optimum-cablevision-internet-service/

Once you have the modem you can call Optimum tech support and ask them to provision a new modem and give them the MAC id located a the modem. They will also send you a prepaid FedEx label to return their modem and the price will be reflected on your next bill. You just saved $10 - $10.89 a month in fees.

I was on a $39.99 promotional rate for Internet only at 100 mbps for the last year. I just got a letter that in January, my rate will raise to $44.99 plus $10 for 'Optimum 100' basically, new rate will be $54.99. What has been people's experience with extending the promotion, I'm wondering if it's worth my time or I should just let it be..

Call the retention dept. and find out. They will usually try to "sell" you another service that lowers the price. But call and see: 877-936-4778

Offered me $10 cheaper then I'm paying now ($20 less then my new Bill would have been) plus 300MBPs vs 100 I have now

Glad I called in. They offered to extend the promo for another year. Was pretty simple.
Thanks @brodes18

I need proof of address however I don't have any utility bills etc. I was wondering if someone with optimum can change their billing statement address for a month for me?

What is this for? They don't always consider Optimum to be a true utility. Better find out before going through the hassle...

What is Optimum's current policy if you cancel in the middle of the billing cycle? Do they prorate?

Also, I may have mistakenly paid them an extra $900 or so on my last bill. Do they refund by check when the account is closed?
