Author Topic: Optimum internet (Read 405719 times)

Very spotty service the past few days. Optimum told me to upgrade to 200 or 300 mbps. Does that make sense? There are obviously service issues in the area.

Depends which area. Some areas have older equipment, also some area have some equipment that are more susceptible to winds and storms.

I met a tech this morning, and he said that they need to upgrade some equipment on Route 9. It can be done overnight; they are just waiting for approval from "the brass".
He also told me that if the service is slow, not to restart the modem, because there is a shortage of IP #s, and if you have one, you don't want to lose it. (If, however, there is no service, then it can make sense to restart.)

Since when you get a new IP when you restart your router?
Never knew it was so easy to get a new IP address just by restarting your router?
If that was in fact true there would be no need for a VPN when ordering or using fake accounts in the US.

I think it's specifically the modem and not necessarily every time. I don't know the answer to the rest.
