Topic Wiki

Below is a link to a list of modems that are compatible with Optimum. Depending on the speed you have you will need to get a modem that can accommodate that speed.
A modem has channels that represent the speed it can handle. It's displayed as download channels x upload channels, so a 16x8 modem means it has 16 download channels and 8 upload channels.

It's not recommended to get anything lower than 16X8 since speeds are only going up in the future.
Chart showing the channels needed to support the Optimum speed

  • Optimum 100, 8x4 or higher
  • Optimum 200, 16x8 or higher
  • Optimum 400, 24x8 or higher

There are many modems available on Craigslist's and eBay as well, there is no need to buy a new one as long as it's compatible.
https://pickmymodem.com/approved-modems-for-optimum-cablevision-internet-service/

Once you have the modem you can call Optimum tech support and ask them to provision a new modem and give them the MAC id located a the modem. They will also send you a prepaid FedEx label to return their modem and the price will be reflected on your next bill. You just saved $10 - $10.89 a month in fees.

Anyone have an extra optimum wifi account? I believe your allowed up to 4 seperate logins.
I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

One thing I have learned  (more details to come) is that Optimum is one of the worst companies I have ever had to deal with. The different departments have no communication and it almost seems that the entire ordeal is there to make sure that you are as annoyed as possible by the end of it.

Sounds like you never dealt with Verizon's Fios ....

I am going to write the whole shpiel once I get everything settled. However, it seems that Optimum does not allow you to use your own modem even thought they told me they do. One of the reps I spoke with (the only one out of about 25 who had any brains whatsoever) said she didn't see any reason I shouldn't be able to but her supervisor said she isn't allowed to provision any modem that isn't deemed officially compatible (basically you have a choice of 2 models). I am going to see how they deal with it on my bills. The rep also said that if I call back, she would try to help me get my non-compatible modem hooked up. Basically, the answer to your question is I don't know and maybe HUCA will help but it's gonna be a pain.

But if you use one of those 2 models then they will provision your own modem? What are those two models? I see a whole bunch listed on their site as being compatible.

If you read the fine print on that page, the only two that are acceptable for a customer to bring on their own are the Arris TM804G and Arris TM822G. The others are only acceptable either for business or residential customers using an Optimum provided modem. I have no idea how they get away with only giving the option for 2 modems when there are tons of others that are really albeit unofficially compatible. Gotta be some kind of antitrust issue. I plan on writing the attorney general about it and finding out more but for now it seems you gotta play along.

I'm on with Fios right now and they offered me 25/25 for $24? or 50/50 for $34 or 75/75 for $44.
are those numbers accurate or will they load it up with fees till its unrecognizable?
I just got a shutoff notice from optimum. They upped me to $59.99 for low speed instead of $40 for 50/50
Edit: He just told me it is either $6.99 /month for router rental or $99 to buy

I just called and removed the high speed internet that cost $4.95 and then called retention to try to get back the promotional price of $29.95 instead of $39.95 for the internet and all the rep offered to do was add back the high speed for free
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

Anyone know how to setup subaccount for optimum wifi so secondary user doesn't have access to personal info?

I showed Optimum Retention the number Verizon offered.
They gave me $39.99 for ULTRA50 for anothre year.
And they reimbursed me for the past two months of $59.99
although that took a transfer to CS and then a Supervisor who can overide.

I just cancelled my service as they upped it to $59.95 and would not give me another discount.

What are my options in Crown Heights for other providers ?

I chatted with them online and they told me they have a $29.95 plan for 5/1 mbps.

How slow is 5/1 mbps ?
