Below is a link to a list of modems that are compatible with Optimum. Depending on the speed you have you will need to get a modem that can accommodate that speed.
A modem has channels that represent the speed it can handle. It's displayed as download channels x upload channels, so a 16x8 modem means it has 16 download channels and 8 upload channels.

It's not recommended to get anything lower than 16X8 since speeds are only going up in the future.
Chart showing the channels needed to support the Optimum speed

  • Optimum 100, 8x4 or higher
  • Optimum 200, 16x8 or higher
  • Optimum 400, 24x8 or higher

There are many modems available on Craigslist's and eBay as well, there is no need to buy a new one as long as it's compatible.
https://pickmymodem.com/approved-modems-for-optimum-cablevision-internet-service/

Once you have the modem you can call Optimum tech support and ask them to provision a new modem and give them the MAC id located a the modem. They will also send you a prepaid FedEx label to return their modem and the price will be reflected on your next bill. You just saved $10 - $10.89 a month in fees.

Tried this?
Haven't had a chance yet, although nobody's posted success stories since that was posted.

At the end of the day it's not entirely up to the representative, I'm sure that optimum limits what they can do?

Got the same one. Remains to be seen whether I will actually notice the improvement but I'm not complaining :)
Just noticed I got the email as well. I haven't noticed any improvement whatsoever.

Did you run a Speedtest? I'm out of town so I can't check it on my own computer.

No. Just the regular usage is as slow as always.

WiFi or Ethernet?
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

I'm usually on a tablet, so my own wifi. The wifi hotspots have been a nightmarish experience.

Just got it down last night over chat from 60 to 50 with the 50/25 speed. Took about 5 min between each response could be they do that on purpose.

Maybe its your router. Try plugging it directly into a laptop and do a speed test

By the way, for people with an optimum voice business account and if you have kids in camp that call you with a payphone that cost money, you can order a toll free 800 number feature that calls your home number for a pretty good deal. It costs $9.95 for 250 minutes as long as you reach the minutes. Meaning there's no monthly charge for it. It comes out 4 cents a minute which is cheaper than any calling card that always has an expensive "payphone surcharge".

Toll free numbers typically have a payphone surcharge (which is what the calling cards pass on to you), are you sure optimum doesn't charge this surcharge as well?

P.s. The camps charge so much in tuition (and unlimited VoIP lines cost so little) that I don't understand why they don't have free lines for campers to call home.
