Below is a link to a list of modems that are compatible with Optimum. Depending on the speed you have you will need to get a modem that can accommodate that speed.
A modem has channels that represent the speed it can handle. It's displayed as download channels x upload channels, so a 16x8 modem means it has 16 download channels and 8 upload channels.

It's not recommended to get anything lower than 16X8 since speeds are only going up in the future.
Chart showing the channels needed to support the Optimum speed

  • Optimum 100, 8x4 or higher
  • Optimum 200, 16x8 or higher
  • Optimum 400, 24x8 or higher

There are many modems available on Craigslist's and eBay as well, there is no need to buy a new one as long as it's compatible.
https://pickmymodem.com/approved-modems-for-optimum-cablevision-internet-service/

Once you have the modem you can call Optimum tech support and ask them to provision a new modem and give them the MAC id located a the modem. They will also send you a prepaid FedEx label to return their modem and the price will be reflected on your next bill. You just saved $10 - $10.89 a month in fees.

TPB doesn't block these torrents?

Sure they can block them from uploading individually, but what stops them from downloading the torrent and then seeding it back to everyone else?

Are you currently using usenet? Is it only good for recent/popular stuff or can you find obscure content as well? Any usenet provider you can recommend?

FYI, my notice was triggered by an inquiry from Media Sentry.

Yup, been using it since I got my second notices a few years back... It's best for the new popular stuff, but you can also find alot of old stuff. The problem that used to be was that most providers only offered low retention for the cheap plans... These days they offer 500+ days on the plans, and if I can't find that occasional item then I'll use a torrent for it. :)

Not sure how useful you'll find this but I find it very good. Filestube, it indexes the web for links to rapidshare etc...

I'm just getting into it... found a free Usenet service (through some promo) and just set up sabnzbd. What do you do for content?

Cool. XS Usenet?

If I am searching for something not recent or not tv/movie I use NZBIndex but primarily I use NZBs.org.

Looks like NZBIndex is a mess... anyway to tell how big the target file is before adding to client?

the size is on the right hand side, the trick is finding the correct nzb needed.

For example for tonights family guy episode:

search nzbindex.nl for family guy
the first result is [76685]-[FULL]-[#a.b.teevee@EFNet]-[ Family.Guy.S10E03.HDTV.XviD-LOL ]-[1/1] - "Family.Guy.S10E03.HDTV.XviD-LOL.nzb" yEnc
then search for 76685 family guy
you end up with 2 results and obviously the first one is too small so it is the second one that you want

you have to get used to the sizes in order to weed out the spam, viruses etc.

350mb for a 40 min episode in sd
175mb for a 20 min episode in sd
etc.

  • Location: The value of a forum such as this one is not in that one can post a question and receive an answer, but in that the question has most likely been asked before, and the answer is available to him that will but only use the search function.
  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.

Yea, I figure its about the same size files as I'm used to with torrents.

But what is the 76685?
