Below is a link to a list of modems that are compatible with Optimum. Depending on the speed you have you will need to get a modem that can accommodate that speed.
A modem has channels that represent the speed it can handle. It's displayed as download channels x upload channels, so a 16x8 modem means it has 16 download channels and 8 upload channels.

It's not recommended to get anything lower than 16X8 since speeds are only going up in the future.
Chart showing the channels needed to support the Optimum speed

  • Optimum 100, 8x4 or higher
  • Optimum 200, 16x8 or higher
  • Optimum 400, 24x8 or higher

There are many modems available on Craigslist's and eBay as well, there is no need to buy a new one as long as it's compatible.
https://pickmymodem.com/approved-modems-for-optimum-cablevision-internet-service/

Once you have the modem you can call Optimum tech support and ask them to provision a new modem and give them the MAC id located a the modem. They will also send you a prepaid FedEx label to return their modem and the price will be reflected on your next bill. You just saved $10 - $10.89 a month in fees.

Call up & say that u want to cancel & switch to Verizon due to the price increase,  works for me
I tried a more subtle version of that, and it didn't work... ;)
Thanks.

I bought a new modem for $55. That takes 11 months to even out. After that, your saving $5 a month. Was a no brainier for me.

ETA: forgot they charge tax on the modem rental fee so it's actually about $5.34 monthly savings to be exact.
where did u find it at that price?
I am looking to buy one.

In your location you have access to both? I thought there was only 1 cable provider per area.

I have had Optimum home phone + internet for the last two years for approximately $65 a month.
Now that the promotion is ending it will go up to approximately $95.
Verizon wants $73 + tax, besides installation fee.
Can anyone advise how I can continue to pay approximately $65 a month with either Optimum or Verizon (preferably Optimum)?
Thank you.

Why are you paying for home phone service? Get an Obi, then you're just paying for internet.

You'd still have the problem of getting your price slashed, but it should be less since you only need 1 service.

Is that reliable? Is it unlimited long-distance? Voicemail, caller ID, call waiting etc.?
Thank you.

Any new promos? I'm looking to sign up for both, phone and Internet.
Also these installation fees are steep. (coming from Israel where it's all free)

Per optimum.com you should be able to self install for free.

On the phone, in Lakewood, they tell you that you have to pay a guy.
Not sure what is up with this.

If you don't have wiring into your house, you definitely can't do it yourself; they have to run the wires inside.

Interesting.
Did you try going to the store and asking for the equipment without installation?
