Topic Wiki

Below is a link to a list of modems that are compatible with Optimum. Depending on the speed you have you will need to get a modem that can accommodate that speed.
A modem has channels that represent the speed it can handle. It's displayed as download channels x upload channels, so a 16x8 modem means it has 16 download channels and 8 upload channels.

It's not recommended to get anything lower than 16X8 since speeds are only going up in the future.
Chart showing the channels needed to support the Optimum speed

  • Optimum 100, 8x4 or higher
  • Optimum 200, 16x8 or higher
  • Optimum 400, 24x8 or higher

There are many modems available on Craigslist's and eBay as well, there is no need to buy a new one as long as it's compatible.
https://pickmymodem.com/approved-modems-for-optimum-cablevision-internet-service/

Once you have the modem you can call Optimum tech support and ask them to provision a new modem and give them the MAC id located a the modem. They will also send you a prepaid FedEx label to return their modem and the price will be reflected on your next bill. You just saved $10 - $10.89 a month in fees.

Anybody know of the best internet plans for first time subscribers ?
Depending on the area you live in, optimum may have a 10/1 plan for $25/month +$5 modem rental fee. I've had this for over year now and I'm very happy with it. Originally was 5/1 but was recently upgraded to 10mbps.

Optimum still worst, stick with Fios. Probably the only thing in Hoboken that hasn't improved in the past decade.

Yes. Verizon is a nightmare ime.
Everything they say and promise is a lie. Your bill will be consistently wrong, and everyone you talk to will give you the run around.

My father's been having that for the last few months, any solution?
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

bpu and when the rep calls you to resolve the complaint make sure to write down the number for future reference since it will be from a special Verizon office

The ISPs are either telephone or cable.

Copy all live chats and save them on your computer, in case you ever need to prove anything for a CC dispute.
Workflowy. You won't know what you're missing until you try it.

Bump - Verizon tends to have more issues than optimum (or anyone else) in terms of mistakes, and poor customer service?

The device is not a listed device on the account. I can go to optimum and add it however I'm trying to do it for manual sign in
