Topic Wiki

Below is a link to a list of modems that are compatible with Optimum. Depending on the speed you have you will need to get a modem that can accommodate that speed.
A modem has channels that represent the speed it can handle. It's displayed as download channels x upload channels, so a 16x8 modem means it has 16 download channels and 8 upload channels.

It's not recommended to get anything lower than 16X8 since speeds are only going up in the future.
Chart showing the channels needed to support the Optimum speed

  • Optimum 100, 8x4 or higher
  • Optimum 200, 16x8 or higher
  • Optimum 400, 24x8 or higher

There are many modems available on Craigslist's and eBay as well, there is no need to buy a new one as long as it's compatible.
https://pickmymodem.com/approved-modems-for-optimum-cablevision-internet-service/

Once you have the modem you can call Optimum tech support and ask them to provision a new modem and give them the MAC id located a the modem. They will also send you a prepaid FedEx label to return their modem and the price will be reflected on your next bill. You just saved $10 - $10.89 a month in fees.

The main Optimum customer service number. When the automated system asks say you want to "cancel service" (and you're "not moving".)

thanks, just called in and they lower from 59.99 to 49.99 TV+Internet. and they upgraded to 200mb from 100mb.

Why would a residence ever need 400mb?

Took 4 months?
It was dated exactly 2 months after the day I cancelled service. I never called them to request it.

If my wife opens up an account and I shut down my account. Will that work for me to get a new offer?

I think it goes by service address
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

Does not make sense as you can have a few people living in different apartments in a House

So that's different apartments. I remember they told me that apartments are considered a separate apartment if it has its own kitchen.

Anyways, you're asking if you will be eligible for a intro offer again or will your wife be eligible?

Yes, it absolutely will work. It goes by name only, not address. As far as Optimum is concerned she is a new resident of the address and you moved out. They don't know differently nor do they care.

My promotional year just ended, I did exactly as you said and the guy was able to extend the promotion for 2 years if I agreed to paperless billing and auto payments.

Thanks!

Heads up, looks like Optimum is raising their rates like crazy! Raising rates on certain plans and adding "fees" to other plans.
